Couple Quietly Relieved To Cancel Scheduled 8:15 Sex Due To Costco Run

OMAHA, NE — A married couple in the Benson neighborhood experienced what both later described as “a wave of calm” Tuesday evening after a required Costco run forced the cancellation of intercourse that had been penciled in for 8:15 p.m.

This week we are telling you to buy a water filter straw, and we are right: Stuff to Buy Before Everything Goes to Shit

The appointment, entered eleven days earlier into a shared color-coded calendar under the label “Us Time,” was voided at 6:52 p.m. when the couple discovered they were down to a single roll of paper towels and four coffee pods.

“We looked at each other and I said, well, if we go now we beat the after-dinner crowd,” said one spouse, adjusting a membership card that had not been used since March. “There was no discussion. It was very mutual.”

Neither party contested the substitution. Witnesses at the store’s entrance reported both individuals moving with what one employee called “unusual purpose.”

Currently accepting payment in cash, credit, and questionable life choices for the "My Conspiracy Theory Is Better Than Yours" tee.

Experts say the phenomenon is widespread and structurally supported. According to a 2024 report from the Institute for Domestic Logistics, 71 percent of scheduled marital intimacy sessions in the United States are displaced by errands, and 63 percent of those errands are described by participants as “honestly kind of a relief.” Bulk retail accounts for nearly a third of all cancellations, outpacing plumbing emergencies, aging parents, and the NFL.

“The warehouse club has quietly become America’s largest provider of consensual sexual deferral,” said Dr. Priya Anand, who directs the institute’s household throughput division. “It offers everything a couple needs to avoid each other with dignity: a shared goal, a hard closing time, and free samples. Marriage counselors recommend scheduling. Nobody told the counselors what people would schedule it against.”

Anand noted that the couple spent 74 minutes in the store, roughly four times the projected duration of the canceled activity, and returned with a 48-count toilet paper pack, a rotisserie chicken, a garden hose, and no coffee pods.

Both spouses reported the evening was ultimately “really nice.” The chicken was consumed standing at the counter. The 8:15 slot has been moved to Sunday, pending a tire rotation.

Costco declined to comment on its role in the nation’s declining birth rate, but confirmed that its 8 p.m. weekday foot traffic remains “strong and growing.”
